Heartlands

Heartlands (very near to Portreath beach) is a regeneration project that has had funding from the National Lottery. I found it whilst searching for activities for children but I don’t think it’s as well known as it could be.

The playground is absolutely fantastic! (Award-winning) It advertises itself as a giant playground and it definitely does what it says. The kids were blown away and said it was the best playground ever.

We got there for 10.30 and it was empty but it soon filled up. The playground area is broken up into several different areas.

Some higher climbing frames and a huge tyre swing for the older children but obviously small children can’t resist either.

Then there was a sand section that fitted in with the mining which is what the rest of Heartlands is about. It had loads of pulleys and equipment on the climbing frames to dig and move the sand around.

Another section had balancing equipment and more climbing for older children.

And finally there was a slide section with little picnic huts. We were disappointed it was too early for us to eat our lunch as these were lovely.

There is a cafe which was good value and had a large menu to choose from.

Then there was a vistors centre with mining exhibition. I was thinking it was going to be a quick whizz round as the kids wouldn’t be interested but it was actually good and had stuff for them to do!

There were mining dressing up outfits and brass rubbings as well as lots to look at.

They have table tennis tables in the grounds that you can hire for a small donation so older children could be entertained too. The carparking was £2 for 2 hours or £3 for over 2 hours. I regret only putting in £2 as we could have stayed for much longer.
