I have memories of coming to Cornwall as a child but also whilst at university in Bristol. I remembered going to a really nice restaurant one evening and then sitting on the beach afterwards but I couldn’t remember the name of it at all.
We were heading back from the seal sanctuary in Gweek and wanted to find a beach nearby. I quickly googled some beaches and Swanpool came up as one of the closest.
I think it’s personal preference but I don’t like the beaches on the South Coast of Cornwall as much as those on the North. There is a very different vibe in general because the surf is on the North Coast.
Pulling up at Swanpool I remembered it straightway as being the one I had been to for the restaurant.
The sea was much calmer because of the surf but the sand was more of a shingle so it didn’t meet the sand castle building requirements of my little people.
What did make them happy was the ice creams served at the cafe. It was very busy as everyone was after the same. They call them “quirky ice creams” they come with clotted cream and then various different toppings including jelly babies.
We didn’t spend long here as it was a chilly day. I’m glad we went as I got to see the beach I had memories of but it’s not a beach that I would spend time travelling back to when there are better beaches for the kids closer to where we stay.
